Field trip to the bakery!

Everyone go to lunch at your local Panera Bread! They were absolutely fantastic to our Busy Bees as they hosted us for our most recent field trip.

We met a baker who showed us all the fancy ovens in their kitchen. Then we watched as he rolled mini-loaves in rice flour for us to bake. He scored the breads and taught us about that tradition. We got take our yummy loaves home!

While we waited for our bread to bake, the kiddos decorated their own Gingerbread Man cookies. Fun!

Poor Lincoln, he thought those M&M's should belong in his tummy, not on the Gingerbread Man's. Can't say that I blame him. :)

Everyone was happy! Thank you Panera!

Week 9

We were all invited for Thanksgiving at the Tappleton's this week, but we didn't prepare ourselves for a big surprise when it was time to bring out the turkey and trimmings....

We decorated our own plates with turkey, green beans, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie.  We also traced our hands and glued them to our Thankful Trees.  It was really cute to hear what our Busy Bees were thankful for.... their rooms, their Dad's Halloween costume, Luigi, soap...

their friends.

Putting the weather on the weather chart...enjoying 75 degree weather in November. 

Our Busy Bees are growing up.  They do well following directions and listening with their ears.

We practiced the letter "E" and "F" this week.  We attempted to try tracing the letter with finger paint but got a little carried away. :) 

 And wrapping it up with Book Look.

Weeks 7 & 8

The flu bug swept through our little preschool attacking the moms and siblings too. :( So our weeks have been shortened here and there.

I was excited to host again as I hadn't seen the kiddos in action since September. I was amazed to see that our busy bees weren't as busy as before! They were far more engaged in the activities and could participate in them for much longer. It is wonderful to see that they are progressing.

I noticed this also in their social development. Sharing different paints colors as we painted pumpkins? No big deal. Taking turns pulling each other in the wagon? Easy. Here, Evan lifts a tree branch so the girls could pass. Teamwork. They are getting it!

This week we read Prayer for a Child by Rachel Field. What a beautifully illustrated story with a tender message. I particularly loved one line from the book, "Bless our father and our mother and keep us close to one another." This story was a great lead in to our week before Thanksgiving as we were able to have a brief discussion on prayer, what is consists of, being grateful and kind and drawing close to our families.

Afterwords we looked at the story Alphabet City by Stephen T. Johnson in preparation for some letter writing practice. We looked at the first few letters (A, B, C, D) tracing over them with our fingers on the page and then trying to write them in the air with our fingers. Then it was off to the tables where we tried to write these letters in shaving cream. Though this seemed to be a little above their skill level, the exposure and practice was great. Of course everyone also enjoyed the "ickiness" of the shaving cream, except Lincoln. I can't blame him.

We also sorted shapes by color and put on puppet shows.

Field trip to the pumpkin farm!

 

We headed to the pumpkin farm for our first field trip.  We learned a thing or two about different kinds of corn, that pumpkins were a fruit, pet some farm animals, found our way through a corn maze, played on hay bails and picked out our own little pumpkins!
